Travel sketching is your passport to a deeper more personal way of experiencing the world. More than just drawing, it's about ovserving and capturing the essence of a place and time.

A travel sketchbook becomes your own personal storytelling blending drawings, notes and collected mementos.

Here are some of the things you will learn in this introductory workshop with Claudia E. Kazachinsky

Capture the Journey: Sketch your mode of transport - the plane, train, or bus.

Map Your Adventures: Draw a simple map of the region or city you're exploring.

Everyday Moments: Sketch cafe scenes, street performers, local markets, or interesting doorways.

Culinary Delights: Sketch local foods or dishes.

Collage and Collect: Paste in tickets, brochures, stamps, or other mementos.

Write and Reflect: Add notes, quotes, local phrases, or your thoughts and feelings about the experience.

Claudia is an sketcher who has travelled the world recording her journey in her sketchbooks.

Location: Hermosa Art Lab, 136 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach, CA
Duration: 4 hours

Join us for a fun and inspiring outdoor sketching experience in beautiful Hermosa Beach! We’ll begin at the Hermosa Art Lab for a brief introduction and warm-up exercises before heading out on foot to a nearby scenic location to sketch from life. Participants will explore techniques for capturing quick impressions, composition, and the essence of place.

After our outdoor session, we’ll return to the Hermosa Art Lab for a relaxed group critique and discussion, where you can share your work and learn from others.

What to Bring:

  • Bring your own sketching supplies.

  • A recommended supply list will be provided after registration.

  • Bring water and dress comfortably for walking and sketching outdoors.

  • You may bring a light snack or purchase something from nearby local shops during the short break.

Whether you’re new to sketching or a seasoned traveler looking to sharpen your observational skills, this workshop offers the perfect blend of art, community, and inspiration by the beach.
