Suggested Student Supply List

Please bring the following supplies to class. These are my recommended materials based on years of teaching, but you are welcome to substitute comparable professional-quality brands.

Surfaces

  • 6 – 12" × 12" stretched canvases
    • Michaels frequently has a sale: Buy 2, Get 2 Free (4 for the price of 2).
  • Strathmore 300 Series Watercolor Pad
    • 11" × 15"
    • 140 lb. paper (avoid inexpensive watercolor papers)

Paint

Professional acrylic paints (Utrecht is an excellent value and my preferred brand. Please avoid Liquitex Basics.)

  • Cadmium Red
  • Quinacridone Red
  • Opera (Holbein only)
  • Cadmium Orange
  • Indian Yellow
  • Hansa Yellow
  • Azo Green
  • Sap Green
  • Cadmium Green
  • Cerulean Blue
  • Cobalt Blue
  • Turquoise
  • Phthalo Blue
  • Dioxazine Purple
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Lamp Black
  • Titanium White

Brushes

  • Assorted acrylic brushes (flat and round)
  • 1" flat or round brush
  • Several inexpensive 2" and 3" chip brushes

Grounds & Mediums

  • 1 pint Utrecht Professional Acrylic Gesso
    • (Used as both gesso and white paint. Its thicker consistency makes it ideal.)
    • CKD will have extra available if needed.

Additional Supplies

  • 1 Large water bucket or container
  • Masterson 16"x20 Palette Box
  • Wax paper (for disposable palettes)
  • Blue painter's tape
  • Murphy Oil Soap (for brush cleaning)
  • Rubbing alcohol (70–90%)

I will provide additional demonstration materials throughout the workshop.
